Conflict in Awami League in Islampur, Jatiya Party in a strong position, BNP has no campaign

Roknuzzaman Sabuj Jamalpur: Jamalpur-2 Constituency consists of Barti Union of Islampur Upazila and a Municipality. Although this seat is well known as the strong base of Awami League. This time Awami League has a conflict position in the 12th National Parliament election. Bangladesh Awamili has been elected eight times, Jatiya Party once and BNP twice in the 11th parliamentary elections since independence. Bangladesh Awami League did not participate in parliamentary elections once and twice during the tenure of Jatiya Party and BNP. Apart from participating 9 times, Awamili held the seat eight times, BNP twice and Jatiya Pati (Japa) once. Seven members of Upazila Awami League are trying to get party nomination for Jamalpur-2 constituency in the 12th National Assembly elections, similarly two members of BNP and one candidate of Jatiya Party are campaigning in the area. Looking forward to the direction of the center. However, BNP is waiting for the Center's instructions on whether or not to participate in the elections. Therefore, BNP candidates are far behind in terms of campaigning. It has been reported that Awami League candidate late former Lands Minister Rashed Musharraf was elected 5 times as a member of National Parliament and once he served as Lands Minister. He was defeated by BNP candidate Sultan Mahmud Babu in the 2001 parliamentary elections due to party conflict. Alhaj Faridul Haque Khan (Dulal) was elected to the post of MP after defeating BNP candidate Sultan Mahmud Babu as Awami League nominated candidate in 2008 National Parliament Election. Later, he was elected 3 times in a row and currently Faridul Haque Khan (Dulal) MP is serving as the Minister of State for Religion. Apart from this, in 1988 Awamili parliamentary elections were boycotted and Jatiya Party (JPA) candidate former Daksur GS Ashraf Ud Dowlah Pahlwan served as MP. Ahead of the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections, the BNP-Jamaat alliance among the big three parties in Islampur is carrying out the central program of demanding elections under a non-partisan, neutral, caretaker government.

On the other hand, the ruling party Awami League and Jatiya Party (Japa) party are continuing mass communication in the area along with election meetings, posters, banners, showdowns. Jamalpur-2 Islampur Constituency 7 names of party nominees of ruling Awami League are heard. They are the current Member of Parliament, Minister of Religion and President of Upazila Awami League, Faridul Haque Khan (Dulal) MP. From being a successful jute trader, he joined the Jatiya Party (JAP) after being elected chairman of the Upazila Parishad in the 90s. After the mass movement in 1991, when the Upazila Parishad was abolished, his chairmanship was also abolished. In 1996, he joined the Awami League by holding the hand of former Bhumi state minister Rashed Musharraf MP. In 2008, he contested the party nomination with Haji Rashid Musharraf and won. After Rashed Musharraf's death, he won the post of MP for 3 consecutive times and is currently serving as the Minister of State for Religion. This time also he is working desperately to get nomination. On the other hand, Faridul Haque Khan became an MP for the first time, he has contributed to Durdin's ordeal Awami League, Praveen A'League, Hereditary and Family A'League and even a soldier of Bangabandhu's ideals, who has contributed to important positions including Chhatra League, Youth League and the President/General Secretary of the A'League. During his tenure, he has strengthened himself by setting up union-ward committees from upazila to hybrid and even new A-League, excluding those leaders. As a result, Durdin's Tyagi and Parikshits were left out, creating a conflict in the party. Due to this reason, Tyagi leaders and activists are going to be his rivals in the elections. In particular, Ziaul Haque Zia, who has contributed the most to Awami politics and has been serving for a long time, contested for the post of upazila president for the first time and was elected as the president through the influence of the MP. Since then Faridul Haque Khan (Dulal) MP has not looked back. In the past 14 and a half years, he has strengthened his party by creating innumerable hybrid new Awamiags from BNP-Jamaat on the occasion of being MP and president of Upazila A-League. As a result, Durddin's Kandari has established his preferred hybrid from the upazila committee to the union and ward level, excluding those who are well-known in the area, such as veteran Awami League and hereditary and Bangabandhu ideal soldiers. In view of which the tyagi-tested leaders and activists are currently on the rise against him. Because if someone wants to contest against him, the victim leaders/activists have alleged that he was subjected to various forms of harassment including political corner stuffing and even physical and mental harassment. Begum Hosne Ara, MP of the reserved women's seat of Jamalpur-Sherpur district, was not spared from his hand in particular. 3-time successful mayor Abdul Quader Sekh, current upazila parishad chairman Adm. Jamal Abdun Nacher Babul and others. Apart from that, the former Upazila Chhatra League President, Municipal Awami League President Nur Islam Nur, the then student leader, who was brutally stabbed in the stomach at the hands of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, and died in the hospital for 2 months, was the dying SM Jahangir.

Mir Jahangir Alam Dulal, the then president of the Sara Jagano Upazila Chhatra League of 90 Gana Andelan, was not settled, as were the family members of the late Mir Humayun Kabir Gani, known as the Awami family in numerous genealogical/familial terms. Due to this, the ruling Awamili party is divided between the tried and tested A-League versus the hybrid new A-League. If it is not possible to resolve the differences between the two parties, then the seat may be lost like in 2001, according to the experts of the area. Apart from that, the candidates are others, Kandari of Durddin, a long-time veteran of Awami since independence, who is serving in the important position of president of Chhatra League, Youth League and lastly Awami League, currently Ziaul Haque Zia, advisor of district Awami League. Jamalpur-Sherpur District's current reserved MP Begum Hosne Ara. Student leader of Sara Jagan in the 90s mass movement, former president of Upazila Jubo League, former organizing secretary, currently joint general secretary of Upazila Awami League and three times successful mayor, Abdul Quader Sheikh. Shahjahan Ali Mondal, former adviser of district Awami League and former president of Bimanbandao Thana A'League. Farmer Manjur Murshed Happy is one of the leaders of the former Awami League. And Shahinuzzaman Shahin, the youngest son of the late Dr. Khorsheduzzan Mishri Mia, former police station of Kandari in Durddin of Upazila Awami League and the next Upazila Awami League president, is campaigning vigorously as a member of the current district Awami League. The names of two BNP party nomination candidates are being heard in this seat. They are the current president of upazila BNP, former MP Sultan Mahmud Babu and former general secretary of upazila BNP, currently vice president of district BNP Nabi Newaz Khan Lohani Bipul will seek nomination. Jamalpur District and Islampur Upazila President Mustafa Al Mahmud is the Jatiya Party's single candidate for this seat. He is campaigning vigorously with his party leaders/activist supporters ahead of the 12th Parliament elections. Mustafa Al Mahmud said, I am a soldier of Hussain Muhammad Ershad's ideals. If I get the party nomination, I will win this seat with a large number of votes and give the seat to the Jatiya Party. Above all, BNP is not in the electoral field, the ruling Awami League has more candidates and due to dichotomy and party conflict, Jatiya Party (Japa) is in a good position as a single candidate.
