Two children died in a fire originating from a stove at their house in Senbagh upazila of Noakhali today.
The deceased are Abdullah al-Noman (7) and Rabeya Sultana Mahi (3). They are children of Iqbal Hossain in Bir Narayanpur village under Bijbagh union.
Senbagh Police Station Sub-inspector Abdul Awal confirmed the incident to our local correspondent.
According to police and Bijbagh union parishad chairman Selim Uddin, the children's mother Golapi started cooking on the stove around 11:00 am and went to a pond around noon today. There was a pile of dry leaves near the stove.
The leaves caught on fire and gutted the entire house, they said.
The incident happened when the two children were sleeping on a bed in a room attached to the kitchen, they added.There was a gas cylinder in the victims' house, Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-charge Iqbal Patwari said.
The cylinder exploded when the fire spread from the stove, the OC said.
