Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a woman along with 25 bhoris of gold ornaments in Jhenaidah.
The arrestee has been identified as Mukta Khatun, wife of Mizanur Rahman hailing from Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla.
She was arrested from in front of Maulanabad Secondary School at Kala-Laxmipur beside Jhenaidah-Magura highway on Thursday.
Mohammad Shahin Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of DB, said they conducted a raid in the area based on prior information and arrested the woman along with gold ornaments meant for smuggling.
During interrogation, Mukta Khatun admitted that she had been smuggling the gold items from Kaliganj of Jhenaidah to Dhaka for long. The estimated value of 25 bhori and 15 anna gold recovered from her possession is Tk 20 lakh.
The arrestee was handed over to Sadar Police Station, he said.
