As of Thursday morning, another 40 ambulances arrived in Bangladesh via the Benapole land port, a gift from Indian PM Narendra Modi.
Neyamul Islam, the Additional Commissioner of the Benapole Customs House, noted that the 40 ambulances entered Bangladesh this morning through the Petrapole border on the Indian side.
He said he is in the process of completing the necessary paperwork to get the ambulances cleared. Once it is done, they will leave for Dhaka later in the day.
While on his state visit to Bangladesh on March 26-27, Prime Minister Modi announced the gift of 109 ambulances to Bangladesh, in support of their efforts to contain the influenza pandemic.
According to sources, all ambulances are equipped with ventilation.
Bangladesh has received 71 ambulances so far, and the remaining ones will arrive by mid-September.
As of Thursday, 40 ambulances have been delivered, with 30 more arriving on August 7 and 30 on March 21.
