The High Court today directed the authorities concerned with the government to evict all illegal constructions from Chaktai and Rajakhali canals in Chittagong.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order today.
The court also ordered the removal of illegal structures in two canals in Chittagong within 90 days and asked the authority concerned to give two
weeks' time to the illegal occupants to remove the illegal installations at their own cost before eviction.

Later, the district administration submitted a report stating that there were 126 illegal establishments in Baklia and Panchlaish mouzas. Of these, 61 are
in the Rajakhali and 65 in Chaktai areas.
Environment, Finance, LGRD and Water Resources Secretaries, Chittagong City Corporation Secretary, CDA Chairman, DG of Environment Department, Deputy Commissioner, ADC, Police Commissioner of Chittagong, AC Land and OC of Baklia were made the respondents in the petition.
