Morshedul Islam Shaju, Homna (comilla): A devastating fire broke out at Sonar Bangla Market in Homna Bazar. Asma Bicycle Store' in the market was completely burnt down on Tuesday (April 5). Six shops, including the partially burnt Sonar Bangla Variety Store, were damaged. The fire caused a loss of Tk 18 lakh.
Mohammad Noor Hossain of Homna Fire service told to this correspondant , "I was able to come to the spot timely and bring the fire under control." The shop from which the fire started was burnt. As a matter of luck the fire could not spread to the adjacent shops.
Homna Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumon Dey visited the shop Immediately and assured assistance to the victims of Shop owner . Also the Homna pourasava Mayor Advocate Nazrul Islam, Investigation Inspector of Police Azizur Bari also visited the site.
businessman Rafiqul Islam an Eyewitness said, I go to sleep after Fajr prayers in the morning. I opened the shop at 8 am in the morning and saw smoke coming out from inside the market. At that time the road was completely lonely . There were no people around. Later I told my wife and children to fetch water immediately. After that, even though everyone was pouring water together, nothing was happening to tame down fire. My son Alamgir Hossain called 999 and informed about the fire to police. After that, as the fire service was too late, I rushed to the homna fire service office and brought them to the spot. Then after trying for about an hour the fire under control. The owner of the market, Abdul Malek said the fire service and local people had arrived at the right time to put out the fire, which had prevented major damage. Otherwise, all the shops in the Sonar Bangla market including Agrani Bank on the second floor would have been burnt down.
