Witnesses told news agency Reuters that hundreds of people attempted to forcibly enter planes leaving Kabul airport and at least five were killed.
According to a witness, five bodies were being loaded into a vehicle. There was no specific information on whether the victims died from gunshots or were trampled to death.
An official in the U.S. military, who oversees the airport, said that US troops fired to scatter crowds earlier.
There was no immediate comment from officials on the deaths.
