press release (BSS) : The World Physiotherapy Day-2023 will be observed in the country as elsewhere across the globe in a befitting manner with the theme 'Physiotherapy Treatment for Rheumatism and Arthritis'. With the aim of recognizing the role of physiotherapy oriented doctors in the world and improving the quality of this profession, this day is being observed on September 8 every year since 1996 by the World Physiotherapy Association named 'World Physiotherapy'. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a message on the eve of the occasion wishing all programmes of the day a success. In her message, the premier said: "I congratulate all Physiotherapy medical professionals and service-recipients on the occasion of the day and wish Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) and the Department of Physiotherapy of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) a success in all the programmes on the day." The greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, started treatment and rehabilitation programmes for disabled people in Bangladesh after the country's independence, the premier said. The Awami League-led government is working to ensure proper respect, working environment, professional independence, and remuneration for physiotherapy and other rehabilitation professionals, she added. "With the concerted efforts of our government, the 'Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act' has already been passed in the National Parliament in 2018," she said. World Physiotherapy Day is being celebrated in Bangladesh since 2001 under the initiative of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA), Sheikh Hasina said. Since 2007, BPA has been representing Bangladesh at 'World Physiotherapy' and is currently promoting the country's remarkable achievements in the field of rehabilitation globally, she added. "Our government has been working tirelessly to provide medical rehabilitation services and life-oriented education to include all disabled women, men and children with spinal cord injuries, paralysis, neuro-developmental disabilities in the mainstream of society," the premier said.
