Mahabub Rahman Biblab, Bureau Chief Rangpur: A robber attacked the police on the Badarganj to Syedpur road late on Friday night in Badarganj, Rangpur. 2 people including SI Mehdi Hasan were injured in the attack.
On Thursday around 3:00 pm, the militants were at a place called Kadmatoli on Badarganj-Syedpur road of Damodarpur union of the upazila and blocked the road by cutting trees on the road. At that time, on the way back to the police station, when the SI of the police station Mehedi Hasan came forward, the robbers did not run away and started hitting the police on the head with sharp weapons from behind. Meanwhile, SI Mehdi Hasan's head was bleeding. At that time, two more pedestrians were injured on the spot by the robbers' weapons. When the injured police and pedestrians screamed, the locals came forward and left the injured police SI's motorcycle and got stuck with the pedestrians' cash and mobile phone. Later, police station got information and rescued the injured policemen and pedestrians from the scene and admitted them to the upazila government hospital. The doctor gave 6 stitches to the injured SI Mehdi Hasan's head. Two pedestrians with suspected injuries have been sent to Ramek Hospital.
Injured Police SI Mehdi Hasan said that while he was robbing a tree by throwing a tree on the road, he fell on the road when his motorcycle hit a tree. In this situation, the robbers attacked him from behind. Even after 17 hours have passed in this incident, the police have not been able to arrest anyone involved in the incident.
Rangpur District Police Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khair Alam said that while returning to Badarganj Police Station from Badarganj-Syedpur road at night, miscreants blocked his way when he reached a place called Kadamtoli in Damodarpur Union of the upazila. Meanwhile, SI Mehdi Hasan and another person who was with him were injured in a scuffle with him. Later they were rescued and given first aid at Badarganj Upazila Health Complex. Badarganj police station officer-in-charge Abdul Latif was contacted, but he refused to comment. However, the duty officer of Badarganj police station said that everyone is worried about the attack on SI Mehdi Hasan. Police are working on it. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
