The government has extended the executive magistrate powers of armed forces officers for the third time by another 60 days.
A notification from the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday said that commissioned officers of the army with the rank of captain and above serving in the Bangladesh Armed Forces have been given this special magisterial power for 60 days from March 15 across the country.
Army officers working on assignment in the Coast Guard and BGB will also be able to exercise the powers of executive magistrates for that period.
According to sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133 and 142 of the Criminal Procedure Code of 1898, army officers will exercise the powers of magistrates.
At the same time, they will be able to take various steps, including removing obstacles to immovable property and business establishments and taking necessary measures if there is a fear of harm to the public. The government has extended the days. In this regard, the period of that power has been extended by 60 days in three phases.
On September 18, the day after this power was first given, the then Public Administration Secretary Mukhles Ur Rahman said that the army has been given the powers of magistrates to create a people-friendly environment in the country.
