Alam Khan, Narsingdi District Representative: Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam. He visited Narsingdi District Jail on Saturday (July 27) afternoon.
He was accompanied by Additional Inspector General of Prisons Colonel Sheikh Sujaur Rahman, RAB-11 CO Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Bashar, Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Badiul Alam, Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman etc.
After the inspection, the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner said that since the incident, the concerned officials including the minister have visited the prison. I visited the prison to assess the extent of the damage. Necessary measures are being taken to assess the damage and make the jail usable at the earliest.
Describing the incident, several prison guards and some locals said that around 4:30 pm, the agitators broke the gates on both sides of the Narsingdi District Jail, throwing bricks. At this time petrol bombs were fired. It caught fire in various places inside the prison. The agitators used the stolen keys to unlock several of the prisoners' cells. Some rooms were locked. The surroundings are filled with smoke.
