Mohiuddin Gazi Mohiuddin Iqbal, a former student of the University of Chittagong (CU), has been offered jobs at two globally renowned tech giants, Meta (the parent company of Facebook) and Microsoft. He hails from the Hathazari Chowdhuryhat area in Chittagong. Mohiuddin was a student of the Computer Science and Engineering department at CU in the 2016-17 academic year.
It is known that Mohiuddin Iqbal enrolled in the Computer Science and Engineering department at CU in 2016-17. After completing his undergraduate studies, he went to the United States for higher education. Currently, he is pursuing a master's degree at San Jose State University. During this time, he received job offers as a software engineer from two of the world's top tech giants, Meta and Microsoft.
Mohiuddin Iqbal’s elder brother was involved in programming competitions while studying at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and later got a job opportunity at another tech giant, Google. It was through his older brother’s influence that Mohiuddin developed a love for programming. He too began regularly participating in programming competitions.
Even during casual tea breaks, career discussions, or time spent with friends, programming was always by Mohiuddin’s side. In the university’s shabby hangout spots, students would engage in discussions about programming problems. At times, he would sit at the back of the class and solve problems on his laptop. Eventually, Mohiuddin started participating in the Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC) with senior students from his department, and he even secured top positions multiple times.
When asked about it, he shared, "Programming contests gave me some of the best friends and incredible seniors. The time spent with them is invaluable. The most important thing, however, is that my deep passion for problem-solving has helped me develop the skills and competence necessary to reach this level."
Mohiuddin expressed, "Alhamdulillah, I have received offers to join Meta and Microsoft as software engineers. I have accepted the offer from Meta. I will be joining on the 18th of this month."
He further added, "Our senior from the 2011-12 batch, Sumit Saha, had joined Google as the first student from CU's CSE department to work at a tech giant. Now he is at Microsoft. Now, I too have the opportunity to choose between tech giants like Microsoft or Meta. This is something truly special for me."
Mohiuddin continued, "I applied to Meta. Initially, there was an online assessment with four coding problems. After passing that, there were three rounds of 45-minute interviews. After performing well, I was offered the position of software engineer. The process at Microsoft was quite similar."
"I am excited to have the opportunity to work at such a prestigious company where I will work alongside the most talented and skilled engineers. Through this experience, I hope to learn a lot, improve my skills, and become someone others can rely on."
"The most significant thing is that I am proud to represent Bangladesh at Meta. I hope our country becomes more developed, prosperous, and happy, and that the world sees us as an example. InshaAllah, one day Bangladesh will have its own tech giant that the whole world will use and take pride in knowing it comes from Bangladesh." Mohiuddin also shared, "When I gain sufficient experience and knowledge, perhaps one day I will be able to do something for my country."
Speaking about his dreams and feelings, Gazi Mohiuddin Iqbal, a young Bangladeshi, also had advice for the youth: "Find something that you truly love, then work hard to improve yourself in that field. My mother always says—that opportunities come to everyone, but only those who are prepared can seize them. I am passing on that same message to you." Gazi Mohiuddin Iqbal’s father, Gazi Mohammad Iqbal Mahmud, owns a jute industry and exports jute products abroad.
