Approval of 10 Projects Worth BDT 4,246.72 Crore in the ECNEC Meeting

In today's meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), 10 projects worth BDT 4,246.72 crore have been approved. Among these, BDT 3,632.01 crore will be funded by the government, BDT 205.79 crore by project loans, and BDT 408.92 crore by the respective organizations' own funding.

The approval was given under the chairmanship of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of ECNEC, in a meeting held at the NEC conference room of the Planning Commission. Following the meeting, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud briefed the press in the NEC conference room. The meeting was attended by officials from the Planning Ministry and the Commission.

During the meeting, the planning adviser informed the ECNEC members about nine projects that had already been approved. These include:

  1. Construction of the Rangpur Divisional Headquarters Complex and the Commissioner and DIG Bungalows (First Revised).
  2. Upgrading the Government Employees Hospital to a 500-bed facility (second revised).
  3. Integrated Livestock Development for 86 Disadvantaged Areas and Riverine Char Areas in Northern Bangladesh (Second Revised).
  4. Integrated Livestock Development for Socioeconomic and Living Standards Improvement of Undeveloped Indigenous Communities in Plain Areas (Second Revised).
  5. Mujibnagar Irrigation Development Project (Second Revised).
  6. Agricultural Development in Rajshahi Division through Modern Technology Extension (First Revised).
  7. Protection of the Left Bank of the Padma River in Munshiganj District's Louhjong and Tongibari Upazilas, Downstream of Padma Bridge (Second Revised).
  8. Restoration of the Golden Heritage of Bangladesh: Muslin Yarn Production Technology and Muslin Fabric Revival (Second Phase).
  9. Urban Primary Healthcare Services Delivery Project, Second Phase (Second Revised).

The meeting was attended by Finance, Science and Technology Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Asif Nazrul; Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain; Home and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury; Industry, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan; Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar; Energy, Mineral Resources, Transport, Roads, Bridges and Railways Adviser Fawzul Kabir Khan; Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam; Youth, Sports and LGD Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan; Shipping, Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain; Religious Adviser A.F.M. Khalid Hossain, along with other concerned officials.

Approved Projects

The projects approved in today's ECNEC meeting include:

  • Finance Ministry's 'Chattogram Tax Building Construction Project.'
  • Three Ministry of Shipping projects: 'Conservation Dredging in the Mongla Port's Pashur Channel'; 'Procurement of Auxiliary Vessels for Mongla Port (First Revised)'; and the 'Global Maritime Distress and Safety System Project.'
  • Two projects of the Ministry of Agriculture: 'Strengthening Sustainable Nutrition Security through Pulses and Oilseed Production (Second Phase)' and 'Increasing Agricultural Production through Groundwater Management in Sylhet Division.'
  • The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives' 'Reconstruction/Rehabilitation of Iron Bridges in the Southern Region (Second Revised).'
  • The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources 'Drilling of Dupitila-1 and Kailashtila-9 Exploration Wells.'
  • The Ministry of Religious Affairs 'Buddhist Monastery Project.'
  • The Ministry of Food's 'Construction of Modern Food Storage Facilities (Fourth Revised).'
