Importers have announced that they will not unload fruits from the Chattogram port for the next two days. This announcement was made on Monday (February 3) afternoon. According to the announcement, fruits will not be unloaded from the Chattogram port on Tuesday (February 4) and Wednesday (February 5).
Muhammad Tauhidul Alam, the Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importers Association and General Secretary of the Chattogram Fruit Traders Association, confirmed the matter.
Muhammad Tauhidul said, "We have submitted a memorandum to the National Board of Revenue demanding the withdrawal of the increased VAT and additional duties on fresh fruit imports. Since the increased VAT and extra duties have not been withdrawn, we have decided to suspend unloading fresh fruits from Chattogram port and all land ports across the country on February 4 and 5."
He mentioned that due to the increased VAT and additional duties, the prices of fruits have gone up, and fruits are not selling in the market. "As a result, we have decided to stop unloading fruits. If our demands are not met by February 13, we will suspend fruit unloading indefinitely from February 14."
