Over the 25 days of the month-long Flower Festival, nearly 25 million taka (Tk 2.5 crore) has been earned at the DC Park in Sitakunda. During this period, around 480,000 visitors attended the festival. The festival began on January 4 at DC Park and was initially scheduled to end on February 5, but the duration has now been extended until February 14.
According to sources from the park authorities, the entrance fee for the festival is 50 taka per person. Inside the park, there are 42 stalls and three entertainment centers. Visitors are charged an additional 30 taka to view the floating flower display. Income is also generated from these activities. On Tuesday, January 28, 12,000 tickets were sold at DC Park, earning 600,000 taka. Every day, cultural events featuring various bands are also held for visitors.
The Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Sitakunda, K.M. Rofiqul Islam, mentioned that students from 15 countries, including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, East Timor, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Cambodia, will participate in a cultural performance at DC Park on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 29.
On-site observations show that visitors from far and wide are coming with their families to enjoy the display of 130 species of domestic and foreign flowers. Some are taking photos, while others are enjoying boat rides. There are various rides for children as well. The Chittagong District Administration expects the total number of visitors to reach 1 million during the Flower Festival.
The manager of the DC Park project and Senior Assistant Commissioner of the Chittagong District Administration, Md. Alauddin, stated that by Tuesday, ticket sales had generated a revenue of 24 million taka (Tk 2.4 crore).
