Chawkbazar (Chittagong) Correspondent: Many live bakeries are constantly being set up in Chittagong without BSTI permission. They are producing food in hazardous, substandard and unhygienic environments. As a result, the health risks of the buyers are increasing. Although BSTI and local administration occasionally conduct campaigns against them, the trend of doing business without a license is not stopping. Even they dose not care abut licence. Such activities has raised concerns about food safety, as has been reported in various sources and news.
A dangerous live bakery has been set up opposite One Bank local Brunch, adjacent to Teachers Training College (B.Ed College) in Chawkbazar, Chittagong. Its name is Treatsy Live Bakery. Although it is must mandatory to obtain a BSTI license for the production and sale of bakery products, They does not have it. There is no BSTI license as their own. Which is a clear violation of Section 24, 13(1), 14 of the Weights and Measures Act 2018 enacted by the government.
In addition, the people working in the establishment do not have any health certificate. In an important place like Chittagong, the conscious civil society of Baklia area sees such a business as a health risk.
When asked about this, the person concerned with the establishment, Mohammad Hasan, said on WhatsApp that they prepare food in a 100% clean environment. Their license is under the process of BSTI.
When asked about this, Farhana Jahan Parul, Assistant Director of BSTI, who is responsible for the concerned area, said that there is no opportunity to operate a live bakery without BSTI approval.
Very soon, unlicensed bakeries will be brought under immediate punishment through mobile courts.
