Beyond the Night of Crime, the Dawn of Law Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz — Truly the Tiger of Criminals and a Chapter of Conscience-Driven Policing in Chattogram

— Md. Kamal Uddin
A city is not merely a collection of bricks, roads, and lights. A city is the assurance of safety, the promise of undisturbed sleep, and the absence of fear. When that assurance collapses, darkness does not descend only upon alleyways—it settles deep within the minds of its people. Chattogram has witnessed that darkness many times. It has seen the dominance of terror, the arrogance of crime. Yet history bears witness to one eternal truth: against every darkness, a light inevitably rises. Today, in Chattogram, that light bears a name—Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz.Leadership Written on the Streets, Not on Paper Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz is not an officer confined to air-conditioned rooms or dependent on file-based decisions. He is a man of the field—an acute reader of situations, someone who understands the language of crime by confronting it face to face. Under his leadership, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police is not merely performing its duties; it is implementing a philosophy. That philosophy is simple yet powerful: not fear, but law; not influence, but process. The series of coordinated operations carried out over the past few months by the CMP’s elite task force under his direct guidance is far more than a list of arrests. It is a silent epic of dismantling an entrenched criminal network—methodical, disciplined, and unyielding. Burma Saiful: The End of an Era of Fear
In the Bayezid area, the name Burma Saiful once symbolized terror. Shops would close at the mention of his name; people would alter their routes at night. Burdened with 34 criminal cases, this notorious figure long believed himself to be beyond the reach of the law. But history teaches a decisive lesson—no one stands above the law.
On January 12, 2026, in Dhaka’s Gulshan area, a flawless operation based on precise intelligence led to his arrest along with his associate, Shihab Uddin. This was not merely the detention of two individuals; it was a crushing blow to the arrogance of organized crime. Their involvement in the Pahartali police station’s gold bar robbery case was subsequently established. A motorcycle used in the commission of the crime was recovered. Standing before the court, they faced a space where power holds no weight—only truth and the rule of law prevail. Not Just Gold Bars Recovered—Public Trust Restored In the gold bar robbery case, ten accused have so far been arrested, and 29 gold bars have been recovered. By numerical standards, this is a major success. Yet the greater victory lies elsewhere—in the restoration of public trust. People have begun to believe again that crime does not go unpunished, that escape is no longer guaranteed. These operations have proven a vital truth: no matter how deep criminal networks may run, the roots of the law run deeper still. Arrest of Associates: Breaking the Backbone of Crime On January 13, operations in the Hillview area led to the arrest of Riyad Hossain and Mir Hossain, also known as Lincoln—key associates of the criminal network. They were symbols of extortion by intimidation, displaying firearms to instill fear and normalize terror as a daily routine. Their arrest marked a direct strike at the backbone of organized crime. Not a Paper Tiger—A Royal Bengal Tiger Some may dismiss strong leadership as symbolic, calling it a “paper tiger.” Reality, however, tells a different story. Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz has proven himself to be a Royal Bengal Tiger—one whose presence alone deprives criminals of sleep. His strength lies not in loud proclamations, but in consistent action. Baseless and fabricated criticisms directed at him do not merely target an individual; they undermine an entire system of professional policing. He does not operate under political shadows—he stands firmly beside the Constitution. He is the son of the late IGP Azizul Haque, a symbol of justice, discipline, and integrity. That legacy of light is clearly reflected in Hasib Aziz’s leadership and decisions. History Will Pass Its Verdict
This time, too, will become history. And history will record that there was a Police Commissioner who worked tirelessly, day and night, to restore the morale of the police force. A leader who proved that the police are not a source of fear, but a source of reassurance. Criticism is a virtue of democracy; slander is a stain on civilization. What is needed today is the recognition of good work and the collective responsibility to stand beside principled leadership. Because when a Police Commissioner stands against crime, he does not stand alone—the conscience of the entire society stands with him. And today, in Chattogram, the message is unmistakable: crime is retreating, and the light of law is steadily illuminating every alley of the city.
