Garment workers have blocked the road in the Polytechnic Intersection area of Bayazid Bostami in Chittagong City, demanding their overdue wages. On Monday morning, January 3, workers from Anwara Dress Makers Limited and Frank Apparels Limited staged the blockade. The incident was confirmed by Assistant Police Inspector Mohammad Kaiser Hamid of the Industrial Police, who was present at the scene.
It is reported that the workers took to the streets because they had not received their salaries for December of the previous year. By around 12 p.m., the owners paid half of the outstanding salary for December to some of the workers, which further intensified the situation. However, so far, only the Admin Manager, Mohammad Javed, from the company has been present at the scene; no other representatives of the company have appeared.
Currently, traffic has been halted on both sides of the road at the technical intersection. The Army, Industrial Police, and Khulshi Police are present at the site, engaging in discussions with the workers.
