Youth Champion: How Muhammad Abu Abid is Redefining Service and Leadership

In an era when self-interest often eclipses selflessness, Muhammad Abu Abid stands as a radiant exception - a youth leader whose vision, vigor, and values are reshaping the contours of service and leadership in Bangladesh. From wielding his pen as a fearless journalist to mobilizing thousands of young volunteers through the Durbar Tarunno Foundation, Abid’s journey is not merely about personal achievement. It is about proving how one determined individual can transform compassion into collective action—and in doing so, inspire a generation.

★The Making of a Visionary:

Born in Halishahar, Chattogram, with ancestral roots in Dashmina, Patuakhali, Muhammad Abu Abid’s early life was steeped in culture and creativity. As a schoolboy, he captivated audiences through theatre, poetry recitation, and debate - a testament to his natural confidence and charisma. Yet, behind these artistic expressions was a deeper inclination toward empathy and leadership. His peers recall a young man who could bridge hearts with words and lead by example rather than authority. These innate qualities paved Abid’s path to journalism—a field that demands courage, conscience, and clarity. Over nearly a decade, he has worked with both national and regional outlets, steadily rising through merit and tenacity. Today, as the managing editor and online chief of Daily Alokito Protidin and senior news editor at Mohona Television, he commands respect not only for his editorial acumen but also for his moral resolve. His investigative reports on corruption and social injustice have earned him the reputation of a bold, uncompromising journalist—one who believes truth-telling is a form of service to humanity. Beyond the newsroom, Abid also plays influential roles in professional organizations. He serves as the Joint Secretary General and Spokesperson of the Television Reporters Association of Bangladesh (TRAB) and Organizing Secretary and Spokesperson of the Dhaka Metropolitan Crime Reporters Society (DMCRS). His leadership within these circles, as well as his tenure as spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Administration, demonstrates a rare ability to navigate institutional authority while championing ethical values.

★Durbar Tarunno Foundation: Building a Movement of Compassion

If journalism became Abid’s platform for speaking truth, the Durbar Tarunno Foundation became his platform for practicing it. Founded in 2019, this youth-led organization quickly captured national attention for its creativity, inclusivity, and transparency. Its motto -to serve humanity through unity, compassion, and action—is not mere rhetoric; it’s the principle upon which every initiative is built. Among Durbar Tarunno Foundation hallmark initiatives is “Amra Mali” (We Are Gardeners), a campaign that transcends the traditional concept of tree planting. Abid’s idea was simple yet profound: planting trees is not enough; nurturing them is the real act of responsibility. Under his leadership, thousands of young volunteers joined hands across the country, creating a nationwide movement of environmental awareness. According to reports from multiple national dailies, the project inspired millions to care for trees as living companions rather than passive objects of charity. Durbar Tarunno Foundation humanitarian initiatives are equally diverse and imaginative. Projects such as “Free Eid Shopping,” “Food for All,” “Amra Manush,” “Warm Meals in Winter,” “Different Kind of Valentine’s Day,” “Rich or Poor, We Are One,” and “Bokhshish Mela” have redefined community engagement in Bangladesh. From organizing Eid celebrations at old-age homes to sponsoring trips for orphan children to Cox’s Bazar, the foundation’s activities merge creativity with compassion—turning philanthropy into a participatory social experience. What sets Durbar Tarunno Foundation apart, however, is its unparalleled transparency model. The organization has over 30,000 registered members but collects no membership fees. Every project begins with a written proposal specifying purpose, plan, and budget. Once a single donor agrees to fund it, they are honored as the “chief guest” - not as a patron of privilege, but as a partner in purpose. After completion, donors receive a full financial report in Bangla PDF format within 24 hours, and any unused funds are returned. This practice of accountability is nearly unheard of in the nonprofit sector and has become a cornerstone of DTF’s credibility.

★Awards, Recognition, and Humility

Under Abid’s dynamic leadership, the Durbar Tarunno Foundation has earned both national and international accolades. These include the Mahatma Gandhi International Peace Award (India, 2024), International Iconic Excellency Award (Nepal, 2023), Bangladesh Youth Volunteer Award (2023), Corona Frontline Warrior Award (2022), and Business Excellency Award (Maldives, 2025). Yet, despite these honors, Abid remains grounded. He often reminds audiences that “the greatest reward of my life is the love of the people.” This humility, voiced from the height of success, makes his leadership even more compelling. His message is clear: service is not about fame or recognition - it’s about empathy in action.

★Redefining Leadership in the Age of Youth

What makes Muhammad Abu Abid’s story remarkable is not just his achievements but also his philosophy of leadership. He represents a new paradigm in Bangladeshi youth movements—one that blends intellect with empathy, professionalism with volunteerism, and activism with art. In a time when many young people feel disillusioned by politics or social stagnation, Abid offers a model of engagement that is practical, ethical, and inspiring. He has shown that leadership does not require power; it requires purpose. By fostering a generation of socially conscious youth, he is helping to redefine what it means to lead—not from above, but from within the community. His dual identity as a journalist and social worker gives him a unique edge. Through journalism, he uncovers truth; through activism, he applies it. The result is a life of integrity where words and deeds align—a rarity in any profession.

★A Symbol of Hope and Continuity

At its core, Abid’s journey embodies the spirit of modern Bangladesh—resilient, creative, and hopeful. From humble beginnings to national acclaim, his life illustrates how passion, when paired with purpose, can become a movement. His story echoes across classrooms, newsrooms, and villages alike, urging young Bangladeshis to believe that “no dream is too big when hearts unite.” In every sense, Muhammad Abu Abid is more than a youth leader; he is a mirror reflecting what today’s Bangladesh aspires to become—compassionate, courageous, and forward-looking. His work through Durbar Tarunno Foundation is not only transforming lives but also transforming the meaning of service itself. And as dawn breaks over the countless young dreamers of Bangladesh, one figure stands as living proof that a single vision, rooted in humanity, can move a nation. For Muhammad Abu Abid, the journey continues—tireless, fearless, and Durbar Tarunno Foundation (unstoppable).
