Robbery Attempt at Abul Khair’s Son-in-Law’s House, Domestic Workers Involved!

Police have arrested two individuals involved in a robbery attempt at a building in the Panchlaish residential area of Chattogram City. During the incident, the house owner was injured after being stabbed by the robbers. The incident occurred on Tuesday (February 4) around noon on the second floor of a building adjacent to Al-Hidayah International School, located on Road No. 1 in Panchlaish.

According to local sources, the building owner is the father-in-law of businessman Abul Khair's daughter. His name is Lokman Hakim, a former managing director of Eastern Refinery Limited. The arrested individuals are identified as Bayezid and Akash, both of whom worked at the house.

Through an investigation and discussions with the police, it was learned that four people, including two domestic workers, were involved in the robbery attempt. The robbery was premeditated, and they attempted the act around 11 a.m. The robbers entered the building, and, at one point, a commotion was heard. Local residents, hearing the noise, called 999 after 12 p.m. to report seeing blood outside the house and hearing loud noises. During this time, three of the robbers tried to flee, but Akash was caught by the locals and handed over to the police.

By around 12:45 p.m., police and RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) personnel arrived at the scene. The army also joined the operation later. At approximately 2:15 p.m., the police, RAB, and military personnel entered the building and carried out a five-minute operation, rescuing Lokman Hakim from the robbers' custody. During the operation, Bayezid was also arrested.

After the operation, the city police commissioner, Hasib Aziz, told reporters, "Since the incident, we have arrested two people so far. No one has died in this incident. However, one person has been injured—the house owner, who was the victim of the robbery."

Regarding the involvement of the domestic workers in the robbery, the police commissioner confirmed that the individuals arrested had been working at the house. He stated, "It seems they entered the house with the intention of committing robbery. Our investigation is ongoing, and we will try to uncover more information."

In response to a question from reporters, the commissioner explained, "One of the robbers trapped the victim in the bathroom. A sound grenade was used to rescue the victim and apprehend the criminal."

When asked whether the house owner had any political affiliations with the Awami League, he stated, "The house owner was injured and has been sent to the hospital. We do not yet have information regarding any political involvement. Further details will be provided after the investigation."
