The moon for the holy month of Sha'ban for the year 1446 Hijri was not sighted in the country on Thursday (January 30). As a result, the month of Sha'ban will begin on Saturday (February 1). Consequently, the holy night of Shab-e-Barat will be observed on the night of February 14.
This decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held on Thursday evening at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The meeting was chaired by the Religious Affairs Advisor, Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain.
The term "Shab-e-Barat" comes from Persian, with "Shab" meaning night and "Barat" meaning salvation. Therefore, Shab-e-Barat is known as the Night of Salvation. On this blessed night, devout Muslims engage in prayers and acts of worship.
On this night, Muslims perform voluntary prayers (Nafl), recite the Qur'an, and immerse themselves in dhikr (remembrance of Allah), seeking the mercy of the Almighty Allah. Muslims will also pray for forgiveness for past wrongdoings and ask for blessings for their future lives.
Shab-e-Barat is also seen as a herald of the coming of the holy month of Ramadan, and preparations for Ramadan begin on this night. According to the Islamic lunar calendar, the month of Ramadan follows Sha'ban.
Although the term "Shab-e-Barat" is not mentioned in the Hadith, it is referred to as "Lailatul Nisfi Min Sha'ban" or "The Mid-Night of Sha'ban."
Meanwhile, the Islamic Foundation will organize prayer sessions, Qur'an recitations, and various programs, including Hamd and Naat, at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram on the night of Shab-e-Barat.
