Colorful rally and fish fry release on the occasion of National Fisheries Week in Rangabali

Shankar Mandal: Keeping in mind the theme of “A self-reliant country through silver fisheries, Bangladesh first,” a colorful rally, fish fry release, discussion meeting and award distribution were held on the occasion of National Fisheries Week-2026 in Rangabali, Patuakhali. The program was organized by the Upazila Administration and Upazila Fisheries Department on Sunday (August 16) and in collaboration with Uttana and other associated organizations. Upazila administration officials, law enforcement officers, fisheries department officials, representatives of non-governmental development organizations, journalists, fishermen and local dignitaries participated in the rally. The rally started from the Upazila Parishad premises and circled important roads. Later, fish fry were released in the water bodies. At this time, emphasis was laid on creating awareness about conservation of fisheries resources, increasing fish production and sustainable fisheries management. Rangabali Upazila Executive Officer Nazmul Hasan was present as the chief guest at the event. In addition, Investigation Officer Elias Hossain, representatives of the Coast Guard and Naval Police, officials of the Upazila Fisheries Department, Upazila BNP President Rahman Farazi and leaders at various levels were present. Representatives of various associate organizations including representatives of the non-governmental development organization Uttaran, journalists and local fishermen also participated in the program. The speakers at the discussion meeting said that fisheries resources are one of the main foundations of the country's economy, food security and the livelihood of coastal people. Therefore, to ensure the reproduction and spread of fish, all kinds of illegal activities including the use of illegal nets, fishing with poison, illegal trawling nets must be stopped. Chief guest Upazila Executive Officer Nazmul Hasan said, "We are Bengalis who love fish. We cannot allow any kind of damage to the fishery resources. Everyone must stand united against all kinds of illegal activities including illegal nets, fishing with poison, illegal trawling nets. The administration will provide all necessary cooperation in this regard." He further said that not only the administration or law enforcement agencies, but also people from every class and profession of the society, including fishermen, must play a responsible role in protecting the fishery resources. It is possible to further enrich the fishery resources of Rangabali through joint initiatives. Later, awards were distributed among the individuals and concerned parties who contributed to the fishery sector. The message of increasing public awareness on conservation of fishery resources, sustainable harvesting and prevention of illegal fishing was conveyed through the program.
