Abu Reza Muhammad Nizamuddin Nadvi, the former Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-15 (Lohagara-Satkania) constituency, has been granted a two-day remand by the court for questioning in a murder case. On Sunday (February 9), the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakkar Siddique issued this order.
Confirming the matter, Chattogram Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) A A M Humayun Kabir stated, "In a murder case filed with the Foy's Lake police station in the city, the police filed a petition for a five-day remand of Abu Reza Muhammad Nizamuddin Nadvi. After hearing the petition, the court granted him a two-day remand."
Court sources said that around 9:30 AM on that day, former Member of Parliament Abu Reza Muhammad Nizamuddin Nadvi was brought to the court from the Chattogram District Jail under tight security. After the hearing, he was taken back to the jail under strict security. On August 5 of last year, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government due to a student-people uprising, several cases were filed against Nadvi in various police stations of Satkania, Lohagara, and the city. After being on the run for a long period, he was arrested in Dhaka on December 15.
On January 22, following a police request, the court granted a four-day remand for him in two separate cases from Lohagara and Satkania police stations. On January 26, he was granted another four days of remand in two separate cases from the Chandgaon police station.
In 2014 and 2018, Dr. Abu Reza Muhammad Nizamuddin Nadvi was a Member of Parliament from the Satkania-Lohagara constituency under the Awami League. However, in the 12th parliamentary elections, despite being the party's candidate, he lost to an independent candidate.
