New horizons for journalism in Natore

Benjamin Rafique: PIB's multimedia journalism training is changing the thinking and skills of journalists Abdul Majid, Staff Reporter: A new horizon has begun in the field of journalism in Natore. An exceptional event has been held for the last three days in the hall of the Natore Press Club, the heart of the district - "Multimedia Journalism Training Workshop". Organized by - "Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB). With the aim of increasing the skills and professionalism of journalists in the modern media world, such a workshop was held at the district level for the first time on such a scale. Every day from morning to afternoon - everything from the mobile phone in the hand to other devices has become a learning medium. Eyes on the projector screen, attention on the instructor's voice. Each day of the training focused on a different topic: on the first day, Banglavision's Senior News Editor Ruhul Amin Rushad, on the second day, Prothom Alo's Senior Content Creator S.S. Al Arefin, on the third day, Daffodil International University's Associate Professor Dr. Jamil Khan and PIB's Director Parveen Sultana Rabbi and trainer Mohammad Shah Alam provided the training. During these three days, the basic structure of news writing, definitions, elements and spirit, creativity of content in news, fact-checking and use of sources, mobile journalism, device settings, modern techniques of video journalism, reporting dos and don'ts, and journalism principles were discussed and taught in the column. Press Club General Secretary Nazmul Hasan said, "This training will play a major role in adapting field-level journalists to the reality. A kind of inspiration has been instilled among local journalists." Halim Khan of NTV said, “We used to do many things based on habit. Coming here, I realized how important planning, verification, and constructive thinking are before creating each report.” Mahbub Hossain of Now TV said, “There is no alternative to such training in creating quality video news.” The closing ceremony of the training was held on Wednesday (August 13) at 2 pm. Natore Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen was present as the chief guest. Handing over the certificates to the recipients, she said, “In the age of information technology, journalists have to keep themselves updated constantly. This initiative of PIB will play an important role in improving the quality of the district’s news workers.” Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abul Hayat was also present at the program, PIB Director Parveen Sultana Rabbi presided over the program, and Press Club President Faraji Ahmed Rafiq Baban delivered the welcome speech. PIB trainer Mohammad Shah Alam said that in continuation of this program, a similar three-day training will be organized for journalists working in seven upazilas of Natore district, which will be held consecutively at the same venue. For journalists in Natore, this training is not just a workshop - it is a gateway to preparation for the future news world. In this new trend of news gathering, verification and dissemination, the participants may become more professional, more responsible and technology-savvy journalists of the future. Where the speed of information changes every moment, this training is becoming an important milestone in the technology-based new journey of the news world.
