Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today, Tuesday, after visiting the headquarters of the Special Branch (SB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police in Malibagh, Dhaka, that he had proposed providing employment opportunities for the 100 people injured during the July coup attempt.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “This initiative has been taken to help the injured return to normal life. We cannot provide assistance to everyone everywhere. Our proposal is to arrange employment for those who were injured wherever possible.”
The Home Affairs Advisor referred to money laundering as the biggest crisis during the previous government's tenure. He stated, "The Awami League government was responsible for the most money laundering."
When asked by journalists what steps would be taken against money laundering, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury responded, "Money laundering was the biggest issue of the previous government. I have said that we will work on this as quickly as possible."
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also spoke about the traffic congestion problem, saying, “Solving the traffic congestion is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, we have proposed to control traffic using 1,000 students. We will provide them with a minimal stipend. Initially, we planned to work with 500 people, but we could not get that many volunteers.”
When asked about the progress made during the five months of the interim government, he said, “You can assess for yourselves whether there has been progress compared to before. The police have started their work. They are taking some time to adapt. They are still familiarizing themselves with the roads. There are also issues with vehicles. We are taking this seriously.”
Regarding the fleeing of many people after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “There was no government between August 5 and 6. Many people fled during that time, crossing the border into neighboring countries. We were not in power then. However, since we have come to power, if anyone has fled, please let us know. If anyone is still fleeing, we will look into the matter."
