Symbol of Courage and Integrity: The Police Life of OC Jasim Uddin

Md. Kamal Uddin

Today, four officers-in-charge (OCs) of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have been transferred to four different police stations. This move was initiated by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz, who is reshaping the force with his personality, efficiency, and wisdom—qualities that reflect his ability to make timely and effective decisions. His aptitude in such matters is truly commendable.

Our Sada Kalo Multimedia News House has already published a detailed report on the transfer of the four OCs. However, today, we wish to highlight one particular police officer who has recently been transferred from the Officer-in-Charge of Pahartali Police Station to Bayezid Police Station — Mohammad Jasim Uddin.

I have known Jasim Uddin for almost 15 years and have had the opportunity to observe him since the beginning of his career. At the start, he was posted at Chandgaon Police Station. One day, he, along with M.A. Hashem Raju, went to meet the veteran politician Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury. At that time, the Awami League was coming to power, but somehow this information reached the DGFI.

When I informed Jasim Uddin about it, he calmly said:

“I have done nothing wrong. Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury is a renowned leader — I went to pay him my respects. It may have caused some inconvenience since his residence is within the Kotwali Police Station area, but my intention was merely to introduce myself and show courtesy. Even if I lose my job, I have no regrets.”

A few days later, Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was arrested and never regained freedom. He was sentenced to death. I took his final interview that very day — a memory that still lingers vividly in my mind. In that context, Jasim Uddin’s fearless attitude has now become part of history.

No matter how many obstacles came his way, Jasim Uddin never gave in to fear. At that time, I tried to persuade a DGFI officer to avoid filing a report against him. Though he narrowly avoided dismissal, he still faced harassment for not receiving timely support.

Today, Mohammad Jasim Uddin has been transferred from OC of Pahartali Police Station to Bayezid Police Station. He is an honest, courageous, intelligent, and capable officer — a man whose character and professionalism are truly praiseworthy. Officers like him are a pride for the nation’s police force. We wish him continued success and excellence in his career.
