The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 58 Myanmar nationals, including a child, and 5 Bangladeshi traffickers while they were attempting to enter Bangladesh in the Alikadam area of Bandarban on January 11. The arrest took place at around 5:30 AM in the Buchir Mukh area of Noapara Union in the upazila. A dumper (mini truck), a private car, and a motorcycle used by the detainees were also seized.
The arrested traffickers were identified as Mohammad Ariful Islam (25), son of Mohammad Anwar Hossain from South Noapara; Mohammad Jalal Uddin (27), son of the late Mohammad Sona Mia; Mohammad Nojurul Islam (40), son of Mohammad Abdu Rahim from Bazar Para; Mohammad Abu Huzaifa (32), son of the late Abul Hossain from Ali Member Para; and Mohammad Khorshed Alam (57), son of the late Anumiya from Khuilia Chairman Para.
According to local sources, the BGB conducted the operation based on a tip-off. During the raid, 12 adult men, 10 women, and 37 children, a total of 58 Myanmar nationals, were detained along with the five Bangladeshi traffickers. The traffickers had been facilitating the illegal border crossing of Myanmar nationals into Bangladesh via the remote mountainous routes of Alikadam. The detained Myanmar nationals are being processed for pushback, and legal procedures are underway, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Mirza Zahid Uddin of Alikadam Police Station.
It is worth mentioning that on November 11, 2024, 31 children and 50 adult Myanmar nationals were detained during three separate operations by the local administration and law enforcement at different border points of the Kurukpata Union in Alikadam.
