In rural Bengal, people celebrate the winter season with Pitha (traditional sweets) festivals, a tradition that is slowly disappearing. To introduce the new generation to the region’s traditional pithas, the Chattogram Rotary Center organized the 1431 Pitha Festival and chat session.
Held yesterday (Saturday) at the Rotary Office in Kazir Dewri, the event showcased 50 different types of pithas. Along with the Pitha festival, a chat session also took place. The festival was filled with vibrant designs and delicious pithas, attracting Rotary members of various ages and professions, along with their families. In rural Bengal, pitha-making is a common winter tradition, with nearly every household preparing pithas made from newly harvested rice. However, this event was unique in its scale and variety.
The Pitha Festival and chat session were also attended by Rotarians Aftab Uddin Ahmed, Engineer Mohammad Hannan, Sudip Kumar Chand, Nurul Alam Chowdhury, and other distinguished Rotary members, including those from Islamabad President-Secretary.
The festival featured several stalls, with the first prize going to Swad-Bilas, the second to the Rotary Club of Waterfall, and the third to "Thakbe Na, Thakbe Na Ekta Pithao." Special recognition awards were given to these booths. The event began with a dance performance by Tabachum Akhtar Ahna.
