Four food establishments in Chattogram have been fined a total of 128,000 taka by the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection for storing cooked meats with raw fish and meat in the fridge, using unauthorized chemicals in food preparation, maintaining unhygienic environments, and producing goods through illegal processes.
On Tuesday, January 21, officials from the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, along with the Chattogram Division and District Offices, conducted raids in various restaurants near Gate 2 and Oxygen Mor areas in the city.
During the raids, violations were found such as storing cooked meats with raw fish and meat in refrigerators, storing leftover food like rice and dal for resale, using unauthorized chemicals in cooking, selling expired and unmarked yogurt, and maintaining unhygienic conditions in the preparation and processing of food products. The following restaurants were fined: Halal Chef restaurant at the Cafe Shopping Complex in Gate 2 area was fined 100,000 taka; Bhat Ghor and Restaurant were fined 5,000 taka; Food Bank was fined 5,000 taka; and Cafe Shopping City Restaurant was fined 8,000 taka. Additionally, Bismillah Hotel and Restaurant at Oxygen Mor was fined 10,000 taka for similar offenses.
Chattogram’s Deputy Director of Consumer Rights, Fayez Ullah, stated that a total of four establishments were fined for various violations, and the businesses were warned to avoid such offenses in the future. Furthermore, discussions were held with market committee members and vendors to raise awareness about consumer rights violations. The Directorate's monitoring activities will continue in the public interest.
