Abdus Sabur Khan from Tongi: Hasan Uddin Sarkar, a potential parliamentary candidate for Gazipur-6 (Tongi, Gacha and Pubail partially) constituency and BNP central leader, has said that a false and misleading campaign is being planned on social media to tarnish his popularity and the party's image. He made this allegation at a press conference organized by himself at the Ahsan Ullah Sarkar Islamic Foundation auditorium in Tongi at 10 am on Wednesday (November 5). Recently, a video of one Abdul Baten Rony from an anonymous Facebook ID named "Gachha Thana BNP Media" went viral. It claims that Hasan Uddin and his cousin Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu said, "Even if 500 people are killed, they will get tickets" - and Rony is now in fear of death for protesting against it. In that video, Hasan Uddin Sarkar's cousin and another BNP candidate for the same seat, Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu, was also accused of making death threats. After investigation, it was learned that Abdul Baten Rony, seen in the video, is a mentally disabled person. It has been alleged that the rival parties or political opponents in the nomination competition used him to spread propaganda. Hasan Uddin Sarkar said at the press conference, "The video is completely false, baseless and purposeful. There may be political competition, but character assassination propaganda is in no way acceptable. I urge the administration to investigate the matter and bring the people behind this propaganda to justice." Local leaders of BNP and its affiliates were present at the press conference.
