9237 people were killed in road, railway, and waterway accidents across the country in 2024

9237 people were killed in road, railway, and waterway accidents across the country last year, according to a report that was prepared by Right Way. Moreover, there are many ways that road accidents can occur. In addition to the road accidents, 512 people were killed and 315 injured in 497 railway accidents. In addition, there were 118 waterways that occurred during that period, leaving 118 people dead and 267 injured.

 

Amongst the road accidents, motorcycle crashes were the peak, or 36.62 percent. There were approximately 2329 motorcycle accidents, killing 2570 people and injuring 3151 people. The number of motorcycles has increased from 1.5 to 6 million in the last ten years. Adding that 6.0 million new battery rickshaws have hit the streets.

 

However, there are 22 reasons for road accidents, including reckless driving, road form defects, unfit vehicles, carelessness of drivers and passengers, and violence of traffic rules. The right body has taken various steps to stop irregularities, corruption, and embezzlement. According to its tally, 504 took place in the country last month, killing 539 people and injuring 764 people.

Motorcycle accidents account for 38.21 percent of the total deaths, as 206 people died in such accidents. Dhaka witnessed the top-notch number of 158 road accidents, which killed 177.
