Two people have died in a fire in the Zafar Soadgar Colony on the west side of the Boluar Dighi in Chattogram. Three others have been hospitalized in critical condition. The incident occurred at around 7 AM on Monday, February 10.
Assistant Director of the Fire Service, Abdul Malek, stated that after receiving the report at 6:42 AM, four fire service units rushed to the scene and began their operations. The fire was brought under control by 8 AM. The fire, which was caused by a short circuit, destroyed five mud houses in the colony, resulting in an estimated loss of 1.5 million taka. Five individuals were rescued from the site and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMEK).
Hospital sources confirmed that the two victims, Mohammad Ilyas (50) and Parveen Akter (45), died due to suffocation from the smoke. Mohammad Faisal (19), Mohammad Sohan (19), and Shahina Akter (23) have been admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of CMEK Hospital.
The head of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department, Mohammad Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, stated that the victims' bodies were not severely burned, but three of them suffered damage to their airways due to smoke inhalation. Their treatment is ongoing, and two victims were brought to the hospital already dead.
