Written Complaint Filed Against Colonel Oli Ahmed in Satkania

BNP leader and Chairman of the Bangladesh Chapter of the International Human Rights Commission, Md. M.A. Hashem Raju, on Saturday filed a written complaint with Satkania Police Station, accusing Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed and his party activists of issuing death threats and attempting a public attack out of political vendetta. According to the complaint, Hashem Raju is currently serving as the Chief Coordinator of the Election Management Committee for the BNP’s Sheaf of Paddy candidate in Chattogram-14 (Chandanaish–partial Satkania) constituency. He is also known for acting as a plaintiff in human rights–related cases on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Yunus and former US Ambassador Peter D. Haas in his capacity as Chairman of the International Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh Chapter. Hashem Raju alleged that Colonel Oli Ahmed had repeatedly threatened him—both secretly and openly—to withdraw from election activities. He claimed that Oli Ahmed warned him that if he continued election campaigning in favor of the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, he would be abducted, killed, and his body would be disappeared. The complaint further stated that on January 8, 2026, at around 11:00 pm, Hashem Raju was traveling with his election associates and security aides in a Noah Hiace microbus and motorcycles along the Bandarban–Keranihat highway, near the broken bridge west of Bajalia Bus Stand under Satkania Police Station. At that time, allegedly on the instructions of Colonel Oli Ahmed, 50–60 unidentified individuals, including LDP leaders and activists, attempted to attack them using illegal firearms, iron rods, sticks, bricks, and stones. As a result of the attack attempt, the front right glass and right-side glass of the vehicle were shattered, causing an estimated damage of BDT 150,000. The attackers reportedly shouted that they were acting under the direct orders of Colonel Oli Ahmed. They also tried to forcibly remove Hashem Raju and his companions from the vehicle and renewed death threats. At the time of the incident, several BNP leaders and local supporters were accompanying Hashem Raju, including:  Md. Ismail (38), former Joint Convener, Satkania Upazila Chhatra Dal Md. Harunur Rashid (58), former   General Secretary, Khagria Union  Md. Abdullah (59), Purangar Union Ayub Ali (61), Joint Convener, BNP Cultural Alliance, Dharampur, Satkania Md. Mohiuddin (35), Chandanaish Md. Khokon Uddin (20), Hashimpur The complaint notes that when local residents attempted to intervene, the attackers issued further threats, forcing Hashem Raju and his associates to leave the area to ensure their safety. The case process is currently underway at Satkania Police Station. Hashem Raju has urged the police administration to take immediate legal action. Local law enforcement sources confirmed that preliminary investigations have begun, although no arrests or formal case progress have yet been reported. The incident has created political tension in the area. The BNP described the incident as an act of political intimidation aimed at frightening their leaders and supporters. No official response has yet been received from the LDP.  Following the incident, concerns have grown over the safety of BNP leader Hashem Raju and the potential impact on election campaigning in the region. According to local political and reliable sources, Hashem Raju continues to feel insecure. Delays in filing and advancing the case could disrupt the election campaign of BNP-nominated candidate Jasim Uddin in the Chandanaish constituency. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
