False Case Overcome: Small Kindness Bangladesh Acquitted in Court

In a case filed on the basis of false and fabricated information provided by some influential individuals in Cox’s Bazar, the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal has acquitted the founder, executive director, and all associated persons of the humanitarian organization Small Kindness Bangladesh (SKB). At the same time, the court ordered the restoration of the organization’s suspended registration.

On November 8, 2018, a case was filed against the NGO at Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka. The allegations included financing terrorism, anti-state propaganda, recruitment, incitement and assistance to the Rohingyas. The investigation was assigned to the Counter Terrorism Investigation (CTI) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

However, the investigation revealed that SKB is, in fact, a registered humanitarian organization (Registration No. 1498), actively involved in projects such as Qurbani programs, rehabilitation activities, goat distribution, food aid, and scholarships for orphans, including humanitarian support in Rohingya camps across the country.

Case documents further showed that the allegations originated from a negative report created due to financial disputes with some influential local individuals in Cox’s Bazar. That fabricated report became the basis of the case.

In its verdict, the court stated that allegations under Sections 6(2)/7/8/9/10/11/12 and 13 of the Anti-Terrorism Act could not be proven. As a result, Founder Dr. Oraqatul Jannat, Executive Director Mohammad Abu Huraira, Abdul Hai, Dr. Shoaib Momen Mojumder, Dr. Abu Nayeem Wakil Uddin, Md. Nazrul Islam, Md. Imdadul Haque, K. M. Mukitur Rahman, ATM Abdul Gafur, Mostafizur Rahman, Tayyab Ullah, Abdul Aziz, Jahedul Islam Noman, Ayub Molla, ATM Nasir, Md. Shahjahan, and Md. Najmus Sadat Obaid, Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Sohel Molla were all included in the list of acquitted persons.

The court also ordered the return of all money, vehicles, and assets seized during the case.

After the verdict was announced on March 20, 2023, SKB regained its registration and resumed its humanitarian activities with full momentum.

The end of this false case against an organization dedicated to humanitarian service is being seen by many as a victory for justice.
