In separate operations in the Chandgaon area of Chittagong city, eight people were arrested on charges of engaging in gambling and immoral activities. The raids were conducted from 3:15 AM to 3:45 AM on Sunday (January 26), during which the police arrested the individuals from the middle of Shamsher Para and a hotel.
The arrested individuals are: Mohammad Alamgir (31), Mohammad Ziaur Rahman (41), Anisur Rahman (35), Mohammad Naim (20), Mohammad Kamal Hossain (28), Mohammad Nurul Amin (24), Mohammad Taiyab (21), and Sanjida Akter alias Roni (35).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police Station, Aftab Uddin, stated that five people were arrested during a raid while they were gambling. The police recovered 52 playing cards and 510 taka in cash from them. A case has been filed under Section 94 of the CMP Ordinance at Chandgaon Police Station.
He also mentioned that, in another raid, three individuals were detained from the Bahaddarhat Rex Hotel. A non-FIR prosecution has been filed against them under Section 76 of the CMP Ordinance at Chandgaon Police Station.
