A deeply disturbing and unprecedented incident recently took place at Chittagong’s GEC intersection. A group of Chhatra League activists, chanting slogans in support of Sheikh Hasina, suddenly attacked the police. When the attackers obstructed law enforcement from carrying out their duties, police were compelled to open fire in self-defense and detained ten individuals at the scene.
While the detained Chhatra League members were being interrogated at Khulshi Police Station, another controversial episode unfolded—this time centering on Jubaid Ibne Shahadat, a reporter for Jamuna TV.
Political Roots Behind the Journalist
Jubaid’s identity is shaped more by political and familial influence than by journalistic integrity. He hails from a staunch Awami League family. His father, Shahadat Hossain Talukdar, served as General Secretary of the Krishak League in Ranguia’s Padua Union. His uncle, Shahjahan Sikdar, is the mayor of Rangunia Municipality and a powerful local Awami League leader.
Most notably, Jubaid is a close relative and loyal associate of the fugitive former Information Minister, Hasan Mahmud. Credible sources confirm that Jubaid obtained his position at Jamuna TV through Hasan Mahmud’s direct influence and recommendation. Consequently, his journalism appears to be founded not on ethics or professional independence, but on political allegiance.
Illegal Entry into Police Station: A Clear Violation of Law
Under Bangladeshi law, no journalist or civilian is permitted to enter a police station’s interrogation or custody area without explicit authorization. According to the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Police Regulations, Bengal (PRB), and the Police Act of 1861, such intrusion constitutes a serious “security breach.”
However, Jubaid blatantly violated this legal requirement. He entered Khulshi Police Station without permission and began filming the interrogation of the detained Chhatra League activists. His actions not only breached administrative protocol but also violated journalistic ethics—compromising the confidentiality of the investigation, influencing witness testimony, and endangering detainee security.
Misconduct Toward Senior Police Officer
When Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amirul Islam, the officer in charge, intervened and instructed Jubaid to stop recording, the reporter reacted aggressively and engaged in a public altercation with him. Such behavior is not merely disrespectful—it is a grave affront to state authority and law enforcement discipline. Acting in this manner under the guise of journalism undermines both the rule of law and professional ethics.
A Larger Conspiracy: Political Subversion Under the Guise of Journalism
Investigations reveal that this was not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of subversive activity by the banned Chhatra League. Having lost the ability to operate openly, they have adopted new strategies—infiltrating media organizations to manipulate narratives and target law enforcement.
Several former Chhatra League cadres, particularly from Fort City University, Chittagong, have reportedly entered various media outlets to pursue hidden political objectives. Jubaid Ibne Shahadat is believed to be one of them.
The night before the incident, several Chhatra League activists were detained during a “Joy Bangla” rally at the GEC Convention Hall. The very next morning, Jubaid appeared at the Khulshi Police Station, began recording videos, and took interviews of detainees’ relatives—all without permission. This was a premeditated and politically motivated act, not journalism.
Such behavior poses a severe security risk. Police stations contain armories, evidence lockers, sensitive case files, and holding cells—areas strictly off-limits to unauthorized persons. Jubaid’s actions therefore constitute not just professional misconduct but a potential threat to national security.
A New Mask for Banned Chhatra League: Media Infiltration
A sensitive investigation has further uncovered that many Chhatra League cadres, accused in the July–August massacre and violence cases, have strategically joined media organizations to avoid arrest and influence public opinion.
Disguised as journalists, they aim to weaken law enforcement and manipulate narratives in favor of political agendas. This is not journalism—it is subversion. Such infiltration represents a grave challenge to both the media’s credibility and the state’s security structure.
Professional Conduct of Police Commended
The manner in which DC Amirul Islam and the Khulshi Police Station officers handled the situation demonstrates commendable professionalism. They acted strictly in accordance with the law and upheld the integrity of the police administration.
The police stance remains firm and principled: to maintain law and order, uphold justice, and preserve the dignity of the state’s institutions. Journalism should serve truth—not political revenge.

The Khulshi incident exposes a troubling reality—how banned Chhatra League networks continue their destructive activities, now hidden behind the façade of journalism.
