Leaflet Distribution in Lama on the Demand for Implementation of the July Declaration

On Sunday, January 12, a leaflet campaign was conducted in Lama Upazila of the Bandarban district as part of a movement demanding the implementation of the 7-point demands outlined in the July Declaration. The leaflet, which highlighted the significance of the July Declaration and included the 7-point demands, was distributed by leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee of Lama Upazila. During this campaign, they called for the inclusion of these 7 demands in the July Declaration.

Present at the leaflet distribution were Imdadul Haque Milan, Mohammad Shafiq, Hasan Mahmud, Jonaid Kabir, Asadul Islam, and Nazrul Hakim Nahid from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement of Lama Upazila. Additionally, Abu Kaysar, Mohammad Abdul Karim, Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, Khorshed Alam Bahar, Jamal Hossain, Anwar Hossain, and Hasan Mahmud, among others, represented the National Citizens' Committee.

The leaflet included the following demands:

1. The state must officially recognize the martyrs of the July uprising and provide free medical treatment to the injured.
2. A clear commitment must be made to ensure the prosecution of the Awami criminals and their accomplices involved in the uprising.
3. The foundation of the fascist state system must be abolished, and a pledge must be made to draft a completely new democratic constitution through the formation of an elected constituent assembly.
4. The leadership of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement must be clearly mentioned in the Declaration.
5. The continuity of the 2024 July mass uprising must be linked to the events of the 1947 partition and the 1971 Liberation War.
6. The new political settlement should promise to eliminate all forms of discrimination and prioritize citizen identity in the formation of the state structure.
7. A commitment to the abolition of the current fascist state system and the implementation of all necessary reforms should be included.

The leaflet concludes with a call for the oppressed and marginalized communities to realize the necessity of issuing a historic declaration, ensuring that the student and people's July uprising remains a documented testimony for future generations. It further states that the declaration will serve as the source of legitimacy for the current interim government and the foundation of the subsequent constitution.
