Md. Shafi: A young man named Imran Hossain (21) was allegedly killed due to wrong treatment in a private hospital in Comilla city. The relatives of the deceased and the locals were upset over the incident and vandalized the hospital. Later, the matter was settled for 4 lakh taka.
A copy of the settlement agreement with the relatives has gone viral on social media. However, the hospital authorities claim that there was no negligence or mistake in the treatment of the patient.
The incident took place at the Trauma Center Hospital in Nazrul Avenue area of Comilla city on Sunday (March 16) night. The deceased Imran Hossain is the son of Humayun Kabir, an expatriate from Sardar Bari, Dakshinpara, Muradpur, Comilla city. He was a tailor by profession.
Talking to relatives and eyewitnesses of the deceased, it was learned that Imran Hossain was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday (March 12) under the supervision of doctor Ataur Rahman with appendicitis and breathing problems. After the tests, the surgery began at 10 am on Friday. It lasted until 1:45 pm. After 24 hours, he regained consciousness at 10 am the next day, but his physical condition deteriorated later. He was quickly taken to the intensive care unit (ICU). Imran died there.
However, the relatives alleged that they were not informed about the death. Even after repeated attempts, the hospital authorities did not allow them to meet the patient. Finally, on Sunday (March 16) afternoon, they forcibly went to the ICU and found that the patient was unresponsive. At that time, the people working there said that the patient should be put on life support. Then they took him on life support. Even though the afternoon passed and it was evening, the hospital authorities did not open their mouths about the patient's death. At one stage, it was learned that Imran had died.
