Dr. Kalipada Sarkar was in charge of the emergency department of the 250-bed Kurigram General Hospital, but he kept a DMF-passed student in the emergency department for a rent of 500 taka and stayed at his in-laws' house. Meanwhile, a patient with respiratory problems came to the emergency department with his relatives. The patient's relatives alleged that the DMF hired by the hospital did not go to see the patient even though the patient had been lying on the balcony in front of the emergency department for 1 hour. Later, when the patient's relatives called the DMF, they mistreated him and went to see him. After a while, the patient with respiratory problems died. After the patient's death, his relatives got angry and went to the emergency department, it came to light that there was no doctor on duty and the DMF hired by Rubel fled. This tragic incident took place in front of the hospital's emergency department last Thursday night. The deceased person's name is Jamal Badshah (55).

He is a resident of Milpara area of Panchgachhi union of Kurigram Sadar upazila. The deceased's family alleged that the deceased Jamal had difficulty breathing on Thursday night and his family members brought him to Kurigram General Hospital. Later, despite waiting for an hour in front of the emergency department, no doctor was seen. Later, a DMF pass student named Rubel came and treated the patient responsibly, by which time the patient died. Later, seeing the condition of the patient, the acting RMO of the hospital came to the emergency department. At that time, the RMO called the doctor on duty and told him that he was outside. By then, many journalists also came to the emergency department after receiving the news. When the journalists asked the acting RMO, he said that the hospital authorities had given the responsibility of the emergency department to an MBBS doctor named Kalipada Sarkar on Thursday night. But the doctor, without informing the hospital, gave the responsibility to a DMF pass student in his place and went to his private chamber in Lalmonirhat. On the other hand, although the 250-bed General Hospital is supposed to have an MBBS doctor in the emergency department, the emergency department is run by a regular DMF pass student for 500 taka. This is the complaint of numerous relatives of patients and many hospital employees who do not want to be named. This is leading to deaths due to medical negligence in the hospital's emergency department. Ekramul Hasan, a relative of the deceased patient, said, "My uncle suddenly had difficulty breathing at night and we brought him to the hospital. Later, we waited for an hour in front of the emergency department but could not see a doctor. Later, a DMF doctor named Rubel came to see him and he died. Uncle died due to medical negligence. And the government wishes that no one should die like this inhumanely. Acting Medical Officer (RMO) of Kurigram General Hospital Dr. Nazmul Islam said, an unexpected incident occurred in the hospital on Thursday night. Legal action will be taken to find out why the doctor in charge left the hospital without informing the authorities. Also, action will be taken against anyone who has been given responsibility in the emergency department in exchange for money. To find out about the matter, the hospital's superintendent, Dr. Shahidullah Lincoln, was contacted on his mobile phone several times, but contact was not possible.
