Noakhali Correspondent: Serious irregularities, corruption and customer harassment have been alleged against Abu Sufian, the manager of the Noakhali branch of the state-owned financial institution Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation.
The victims alleged that there was unreasonable delay in approving any house loans, repeated excuses of new documents and additional charges on various pretexts including digital expenses, "file processing". As a result, ordinary or general peoples are facing severe mental stress in addition to financial losses.
When asked to go around the aforsaid area to get the true opinions of the victims, Sufferer many were not reluctant to disclose the irregularities fearing that there would be problems in obtaining loans.
Noor Nabi, a resident of Fatehpur area of Sadar Upazila of Noakhali lamented, "Although my loan was supposed to be approved within a month, 3 months have already passed. allready 50,000 taka has been spent from me on various pretexts, but I have not received the loan yet.”
Another victim, Tayyab Ahmed Selim, complained, “I have been spending about 35,000 taka and have been roaming around for the last 8 months, but there is still no news of receiving the loan. Every time I have to meet the demands of new excuses that come up.
When asked about the related matter, the phone of Noakhali branch manager Abu Sufian was found switched off.
There is no end to the intense anger and concern in the local conscious community over such various allegations about house building loans. According to them, if such irregularities continue in a state-owned reputated institution, the trust of the common people will be severely damaged.
They have strongly demanded that the concerned authorities immediately identify the real culprits through an impartial investigation and take stringent legal action. It is the need of the hour to ensure the punishment of the culprits through a speedy investigation and restore the fair rights of the victims.
