Home Affairs Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, while mentioning the ongoing "Devil Hunt" operation across the country, stated that no devil should escape from the law enforcement agencies. He made these comments on Tuesday morning (February 11) at a workshop on law enforcement with an emphasis on human rights and the environment, held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, Dhaka.
The Home Affairs Advisor said, “You are surely aware that one of the main objectives of the current interim government is to ensure the security of people's lives and property, bringing fascists, their allies, criminals, anarchists, and terrorists under the law and ensuring exemplary punishment for them. Fascism has left, but their allies continue to conspire against the government both domestically and abroad.”
He further stated that these individuals have unlawfully looted the resources of the country and have become owners of immense illegal wealth. Those who have raised their voices against their injustice have been branded as traitors and have been harassed with false cases, while party activists have been incited against them. They have also taken control of the media and suppressed human rights organizations. A loyal capitalist class has been created to loot resources, and they have imposed control over civil services and security forces, undermining the independence of the judiciary.
The advisor mentioned that the fascist government used the entire state machinery unjustly to stay in power. “Using the illegal wealth accumulated over the past 16 years, they are now showing their presence through creating unrest in collaboration with dark forces. The government is working to bring the criminals involved in the July-August killings, terrorist activities, the special helmet forces involved in mass killings, fascists and their allies involved in criminal activities, money laundering, looting, and conspiracy under the law,” he said.
The Home Affairs Advisor stated that the police force, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and armed forces have arrested a significant number of these criminals through legal processes. This process is ongoing. To bring those involved in creating unrest and their accomplices under the law, the Ministry of Home Affairs initiated "Operation Devil Hunt" on February 8 under the coordination of law enforcement agencies.
He further explained that the Ministry of Home Affairs will monitor the overall activities related to this operation across the country, and the "Joint Operation Center," set up under the Police Headquarters, will coordinate the operation's activities. In metropolitan areas, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and in districts, the District Magistrates will coordinate this operation.
He said, "We do not want to see any criminals on the streets, in markets, fields, or roads. We want to bring every criminal under the law and ensure their punishment. I urge the law enforcement agencies to be more proactive. I will say about 'Operation Devil Hunt' that no devil should escape from the hands of the law enforcement agencies."
Addressing the lawyers, the advisor said, “I request you to be present at the scheduled dates and times of every case filed in the courts. Keep constant communication with the prosecuting agency and stay updated with sufficient information. Be extra cautious to ensure no terrorist gets bail.”
He further added, “We have seen how the previous fascist government kept innocent and helpless people locked up for years through mock trials in thousands of cases. They sentenced innocent people to rigorous imprisonment. Perhaps the judgment for this injustice will come one day. However, the arrest of fascist terrorists, those who shoot at people's chests, the helmet forces, criminals, instigators, those who intimidate the public, and corrupt individuals, and sending them to court should not lead to a situation where they get bail and return to crime due to shortcomings in information or agency failures.”
The workshop was also attended by other guests, including Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs; Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Industry; and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change.
