It has been announced that Bangladeshi writer and former Secretary General of PEN Bangladesh, Muhammad Mohiuddin, has been appointed to an important position in the internationally renowned literary organization, PEN International. His achievement is not only a milestone for Bangladesh’s literary community but also a proud chapter for Chattogram. Previously, he serv ed for three years on the Steering Committee of PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee. He has also represented Bangladesh at PEN International congresses and conferences held across the world—including South Korea (2012), India (2018), Thailand (2019), the Philippines (2019), France (2020), Sweden (2022), Croatia (2023), and Poland (2025). Muhammad Mohiuddin is not only an organizer but also a promising fiction writer. He has published 10 novels, 2 story collections, and 3 edited volumes. He is especially well-known among literary enthusiasts as the editor and publisher of Golpokar, the only Bengali monthly magazine dedicated to short stories. Founded in London in 1921, PEN International is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious literary organizations, aiming to promote literature, foster intellectual cooperation, and protect freedom of expression.
As a member of PEN International myself, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Muhammad Mohiuddin on this achievement. A matter of special pride is that he is a son of Chattogram—one of our own. We had the opportunity to participate together in the World Writers’ Conference in South Korea, where his profound literary insight and humanistic perspective deeply inspired me.
May his new role become a guiding light for our literary world. May his pen shine ever brighter for the cause of Bengali language, literature, and humanity—this is the heartfelt wish from a fellow writer and companion from Chattogram.
