Anisul, Salman, Deepu Moni, and 8 Others Granted Remand Again

In separate cases, former Law Minister Anisul Haq, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's private sector and investment advisor Salman F. Rahman, and six others have been granted two days of remand each by the court. On Monday (February 3), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq issued the remand order.

The other six defendants who were granted remand are: retired Appellate Division Judge A.H.M. Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former Education Minister Deepu Moni, former Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam, former ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, former Member of Parliament Solaiman Selim, and Golam Sarwar Pinto.

Previously, in the case of van driver Hafizul Sikder's murder, police filed a request for a five-day remand for Anisul Haq, Salman F. Rahman, Shamsuddin Chowdhury, Deepu Moni, Atiqul Islam, Junayed Ahmed, and Golam Sarwar, and they were brought to court.

During the remand hearing, the public prosecutor of Dhaka, Omar Faruk Faruki, argued in favor of the remand application. The defense lawyer requested the cancellation of the remand and applied for bail on behalf of the defendants. After hearing both sides, the court granted two days of remand for each of the defendants.

In another case, police filed for a five-day remand for Solaiman Selim in the attempted murder case of Anik Kumar Das at the Kotwali police station in the capital. His lawyer, Sri Pranath, requested the cancellation of the remand and filed a bail application. After hearing both sides, the court granted two days of remand for Solaiman Selim.

Additionally, former Minister of Industry Kamal Ahmed Majumdar and former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), Major General (retd.) Ziaul Ahsan, have been arrested in connection with two murder cases.

Following the August 13 student and public uprising that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, Salman F. Rahman and Anisul Haq were arrested. To date, Salman F. Rahman has been granted a total of 60 days of remand across 11 cases. Meanwhile, Anisul Haq has been granted a total of 48 days of remand in various cases.

Junayed Ahmed was arrested on August 15, and the court has granted him 60 days of remand in various cases. Other individuals, including Deepu Moni, have also been granted remand for various durations.
