The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has discovered nearly 31.62 billion Taka worth of transactions in the bank accounts of former Faridpur Member of Parliament (MP) Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, also known as Nixon, and his wife Tarin Hossain. Additionally, information has emerged about their illicit accumulation of 192.9 million taka in assets. Based on these findings, the ACC filed cases against them on Thursday.
The commission's Director General (Prevention), Akhtar Hossain, shared these details with the media at the agency's Segunbagicha office in the capital.
Akhtar Hossain stated that during his tenure as an MP for Faridpur-4, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury abused his power and engaged in various irregularities and corruption, acquiring assets worth 112.36 million Taka beyond his known sources of income. He used 55 bank accounts linked to him and his related entities to conduct abnormal transactions amounting to 140.25 billion taka, which included 71.59 billion taka deposited and 68.65 billion taka withdrawn. Through these transactions, he committed offenses under the Money Laundering Prevention Act by transferring, converting, and channeling illicit funds.
The ACC Director further stated that Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury's wife, Tarin Hossain, with his direct involvement, acquired 8.05 million taka in assets beyond her known income. She also used 17 bank accounts related to her and her connected entities to conduct abnormal transactions amounting to 176.03 billion taka, including deposits of 88.15 billion taka and withdrawals of 87.88 billion taka.
