The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has removed the 'indigenous' graffiti from the back cover of the "Bangla Grammar and Construction" book for 9th and 10th grades. This change was made on Sunday night in response to the demands of a group of students.
The online version of the book available on the NCTB website now features a new graffiti titled "Bol Bir, Chir Unnoto Mom Shir" (translated as "We are the Brave, Ever Elevated"), replacing the previous one.
The change was implemented after a protest by a group of students, known as "Students for Sovereignty." They argued that the term "indigenous" does not appear in the constitution. According to their claim, the constitution refers to "ethnic minorities" or "tribes," so the use of the term "indigenous" was inappropriate.
The students held a protest in front of the NCTB office in Motijheel last night, and soon after, the graffiti was removed from the online version of the textbook.
