Attempted Robbery at Former MD of Jamuna Oil Company's House by Posing as Detectives, 12 Arrested

A group of 12 people was arrested by the police for attempting a robbery at the residence of the former Managing Director of Jamuna Oil Company Limited in the city of Chattogram while posing as members of a detective agency. The incident occurred on Friday night (January 24) at around 10:15 PM at a building named Sanmar Royal Rich on Khulshi 3rd Road. The gang entered the building at that time and was apprehended by police around 12:30 AM.

The arrested individuals are: Wazed (36), Mohammad Hossain (42), Mohammad Rubel Hossain (25), Mohiuddin (45), Abdus Sabur (37), Yakub (35), Mojaher Alam (55), Mohammad Romel (41), Osman (24), Abdul Mannan (35), Shawkat Akbar Imon (28), and Harunur Rashid (36).

According to eyewitnesses, a group of 13 individuals arrived in two black microbuses at around 10:15 PM and posed as members of a detective agency to the security guard at the building. They tied up the guards and forcibly seized their mobile phones and CCTV hard drives, cutting off the intercom connection. The robbers then proceeded to the 8th floor, where they broke into the flat of Gias Uddin Ansari, the former Managing Director of Jamuna Oil Company, attempting to loot valuables.

The residents of nearby flats became aware of the situation and called the national emergency service, 999. Acting on the tip-off, Khulshi police arrived quickly and managed to arrest 12 individuals, although two managed to escape in a microbus. Police recovered a microbus with the license plate Chattogram Metro Ch-11-5931, a steel rod, a toy pistol (with a police cover), identity cards of a detective agency, 20 to 25 empty sacks, and several mobile phones from the scene.

Deputy Commissioner (Crime) of the city police, Raiz Uddin, stated, "The suspects arrived at the building in two microbuses, posed as members of a detective agency, and tied up the security guards. They then attempted to rob the flat of Gias Uddin Ansari. Acting on a tip-off, the police reached the scene, arrested 12 individuals, and seized various tools used for the robbery."

Raiz Uddin also mentioned that the flat's residents were not home at the time of the incident as they were out visiting. Among the arrested individuals were foreigners, former bankers, sand suppliers, and shop employees. Legal action is underway against them.
