Awami League leader Fakhrul Anwar was detained from his son's Bou-Bhat (post-wedding reception) ceremony. The incident occurred at a community center in the Tiger Pass area of the city. Fakhrul Anwar, a former industrial and trade secretary of the Awami League, is the younger brother of former MP Rofiqul Anwar from the Fatikchhari constituency.
At around 11:30 PM on Saturday, January 1, police from the Khulshi Police Station detained him from a confined situation and took him to the police station. The Bou-Bhat ceremony was being held at the Navy Convention Hall in Tiger Pass, where Fakhrul Anwar's son's wedding reception was taking place.
It was reported that former MP Khadijatul Anwar Soni's uncle, Fakhrul Anwar, was hosting the event. During the ceremony, rumors spread that Soni and former MP Najeebul Bashar Maijvandari would attend. A group of students and people gathered and started shouting slogans. Later, police arrived and detained Fakhrul Anwar, taking him to the station.
The ceremony was held after the wedding of Fakhrul Anwar's son to the granddaughter of former Chattogram City Corporation Mayor M. Manzur Alam. Around 9 PM, a few leaders from the Awami League, who had attended the wedding, were reportedly informed by the event coordinators. Suddenly, over a hundred youths gathered outside the community center, chanting slogans like "My brother is in the grave; why is the killer free?" They confined Fakhrul Anwar, and police and army personnel arrived at the scene to detain him.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (North), Mohammad Faisal Ahmed, said that Fakhrul Anwar was detained from the community center event and taken to the police station. They are verifying how many cases are pending against him. It was reported that leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement had confined him.
