The Panama-flagged chemical oil tanker, MT Dolphin, was fined 1 million taka by the Chittagong Port Authority for entering the port's waters without clearance. The ship was supposed to travel from Jeddah to Mongla, passing through Pakistan and India. The incident took place on Tuesday evening, February 4, and the fine was confirmed by the Chittagong Port Authority Secretary, Omar Farooq.
According to harbor sources, the MT Dolphin, carrying oil, was on its way to Mongla Port. The vessel had picked up oil from Jeddah’s Islamic Port. On its route, it passed through Pakistan’s Qasim Port and then through India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port, eventually entering Chittagong Port's waters. Any ship entering Chittagong Port's waters without permission is detected by the port's advanced monitoring system. This ship was similarly detected, and a team from the harbor department seized the vessel. Following this, a fine was imposed.
The necessary paperwork for the ship to proceed to Mongla Customs was completed. Omar Farooq, the Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority, confirmed the details, saying, “No ship can enter the gazetted waters of Chittagong Port without clearance. So, when MT Dolphin approached the Kutubdia waters on February 3, it was immediately identified. Upon speaking with the crew, it was found that the ship had mistakenly entered the Chittagong Port area while trying to reach Mongla. As a result, the ship was fined 1 million taka.”
