Former District Commissioner (DC) of Cox's Bazar, Md. Ruhul Amin, has been sent to jail on charges of land acquisition document forgery. On Sunday (February 9), at around 12 PM, Munshi Abdul Majid, Judge of the Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Court, ordered his imprisonment.
According to court sources, A. K. M. Kaisarul Islam Chowdhury, a resident of Matarbari, filed a case on November 19, 2014, accusing the then District Commissioner Md. Ruhul Amin and 27 others of embezzling nearly 20 crore taka in a land acquisition case for a power plant construction. The case was filed in the Senior Special Judge’s Court in Cox's Bazar. The court took cognizance of the case and directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate. However, the then District and Sessions Judge, Md. Sadikul Islam Talukder, sent the case documents to the head office of the ACC, omitting the name of the first accused, Ruhul Amin.
The Public Prosecutor (PP) of the District and Sessions Court, Siraj Ullah, stated that former District Commissioner Md. Ruhul Amin has been sent to jail over allegations of forgery in the land acquisition case documents. After discovering the forgery, the plaintiff filed another case. Subsequently, on July 1 of last year, Mohammad Riaz Uddin, Assistant Director of the ACC's Cox's Bazar Integrated District Office, submitted an investigation report to the court regarding five individuals. Today, former DC Ruhul Amin surrendered to the court, and we are satisfied with the proceedings.
