Staff Reporter: A human chain and press conference have been held against a BNP leader in protest of an attack on a businessman in Raipur, Lakshmipur district, for not paying extortion. Last Thursday (September 11), the human chain and the press conference were held at the Raipur Journalists Union office on the main road adjacent to Raipur police station by businessman Md. Al Amin, son of the deceased Hasan Ahmed of Municipal Ward No. 7. The complaint states that on September 9 at 7 pm, while Raipur Bazar businessman Md. Al Amin was standing at a fruit stall adjacent to the municipal town, BNP Youth Affairs Secretary of Raipur Municipality Ward No. 7 Md. Masud Rana blocked his path and demanded a bribe of one lakh taka. When businessman Al Amin refused to pay, Masud abused the businessman in foul language and at one stage threatened to kill him and beat him up openly, as a result of which businessman Al Amin was seriously injured and the locals took him to the Raipur Government Hospital. Businessman Al- Amin said, "I have been doing brick, sand and cement business with a good reputation in front of the SP Circle Office on Pir Faizullah Road, Raipur for a long time." On the other hand, terrorist Masud has been carrying out various terrorist activities including extortion, land grabbing, yaba trade, child rape, etc. in the area for a long time. Masud Rana demanded extortion from me and when I refused to pay, he attacked me in an ambush. Later, terrorist Masud filed a false case against me and held a press conference. The victim local resident Mukta said, "We are not able to live in peace in the area due to the anti-social activities of this terrorist Masud and his wife Kusum Akhtar. We want proper justice for them." Another local resident Zahid said, "Recently, 57 local residents signed a petition against them for their illegal activities. We are not able to live in peace in the area because of them. We are seeking the intervention of the administration." Meanwhile, businessman Alamin filed a complaint with Raipur Police Station. The police officer in charge said that action will be taken after investigation. When asked about this, the accused Md. Masud Rana said, "The allegations against me are false and baseless."
